Saltine

Design: Miles (whilst working at John Perkins Projects)
Build: John Perkins Projects

Saltine was a neighbourhood restaurant in Highbury on the site of an old chicken shop. The site was taken over halfway through the build of a previous scheme. The interior scheme was developed alongside the restaurant concept, which influenced the palette of pared-back materials. Varying gauges of notched trowel-applied tile adhesive line the new partitions and elsewhere, the brick walls were left exposed under the large skylight to the back of the plan.

An angled bar to the front was fabricated from resin-cast wood fibre panels with a custom uni-strut light above. A custom suite of benches was designed for the back area seating to match banquette seating, built-in units and wine storage shelving along the left-hand edge.
